Personal Injury, Civil Litigation, and Criminal Defense

Every case is prepared as if it will be tried.

Portrait of Stephen K. Luxton

Stephen K. Luxton spent more than a decade on the defense side of high-stakes insurance and commercial litigation.

That work showed how insurers, opposing counsel, and prosecutors value a case: in large part by whether the lawyer across the table is ready to try it. So the work starts early. The facts are learned, the evidence is preserved, and the case is built for a jury from the beginning and pressed accordingly.

The difference is in the preparation.

Personal Injury

I represent people seriously injured in car crashes, commercial-vehicle crashes, and other incidents caused by the conduct of another person or business.

Liability evidence is secured early. Treatment and damages are documented as they develop. Witnesses, records, photographs, and video are pursued before they disappear. The case is built for trial from the start, and settlement is discussed from that record, not from a summary assembled at the end.

Civil Litigation

I represent individuals and businesses in commercial, contract, construction, insurance, and condemnation disputes, at trial and on appeal.

Each matter starts with a close look at the facts, the documents, the economics, and the client's objective. Discovery is aimed at the issues that decide the case, and the case is prepared for trial whether or not it ends there. Clients get a candid view of cost, leverage, and risk as it develops.

Criminal Defense

I handle misdemeanors, felonies, and criminal appeals.

Much of that work is by court appointment, representing people who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. The right to counsel depends on counsel who does the work, and every appointed client receives the same preparation as any other client. Beyond appointments, I accept a very limited number of privately retained criminal matters. Each is prepared for trial from the first setting.
